I got this HP Pavilion dv6 laptop 7 months ago and the battery life used to be great. It used to give me 9-10 hours. I installed windows 8, 3 months ago and now the battery life only gives me about 4 hours. I almost always have it plugged it though. Would it help to go back to windows 7? Or should I just buy a new battery?

It could be a app or process on the pc taking up resources and killing your battery faster. Or discharging your battery alot also reduces the capacity the battery can hold. Most likely its something taking up system resources you can check by right clicking taskbar, select task manager, click on cpu.
Truly its your battery, after goodbye batteries get wore down and cannot last as long as they have got to. Most persons simply preserve their old battery in though to economize and simply hold it plugged in most of the time. However eventually your battery lifestyles will get shorter and shorter to the point you have to preserve it plugged in for the computer to remain on for greater than 10 minutes
