The front passenger side window has decided to drop unevenly when opened. I had a quick look at the mechanism, and one of the little white nylon wheels on the dropping arm has more or less disintegrated. I seem to remember reading some time ago that one of the guides breaks. Any ideas before I take the door apart again?

Once you study the workings the reasons will become clear. However, some of the worn parts are available only as an assembly. The round nylon roller that has worn down and slipped from it's channel can be replaced with something else from the hardware store. But,be prepared to spend some money at the dealer parts department.
Unfortunately this is vey common with Discos and Rangies, I'm fortunate to have access to a workshop and have had to replace three of these little white nylon wheels, but I usually make them from aluminium.
I did enquire through Landrover once, and they only offer a complete window control unit as a replacement, I don't think it was over expensive though - around the £40 mark but it was a while ago, if you replace it yourself you will save the cost of LR stripping out the door etc.
To replace the wheel yourself you need to remove the window winding assembly from the door and carefully file off the hollow end of the rivet holding the broken wheel, tap the rivet through the operating arm and remove.
To refit you need to put a small spot of weld on the now too short rivet tail to hold it all together.
To do the job including making a new wheel took about an hour and a half.
I had the same problem on my TDi landrover. The cheapest and best way to resolve the problem is to take a trip down to your local scrap yard and look for a landrover, Check to see if the mechanism is the same(Most are) and then remove the window from the door. Easy to do after you have removed the white nylon wheels from the door mounted slides.
Once you have the window out you will be able to remove the two wheels from the window and replace the damaged once on your vehicle.
Alternatively contact Landrover and get a price for the replacement wheels and then replace them yourself.
