Why do we need to know who his father is? Does it really matter? Michael is winning big and we are worried about his dad! What do you think is the media just being nosy (as always) or good reason to found out who his father is ? Is it important
i agree with you I personally dont care But right now with all his medals its like Michael mania and everyone is scrambling to find stories on him just to have something to contribute
I think that the media is just being nosy because there is little to no mention about his father. Michael's parents divorced when he was nine years old, and Fred Phelps is a retired state trooper remarried in New England. He and Michael don't have much of a father/son relationship because Fred is a deadbeat father, although he was there for Michael at the 2004 Athens Olympics, but still he's a deadbeat! He has yet to congratulate his son on winning 8 Gold medals for the Beijing Olympics. Michael is better off without his father.
then you can put it to rest. I'm amazed that the news didn't report any more about it than they did. I have heard very little about it at all. I wondered because they're always sharing tragic stories with us during the Olympics but didn't mention Michael's father. If it was a tragic story they would have mentioned it. So I assumed it was exactly what it was.. another divorce and kids get caught in the middle maybe. Anyway, Michael seems to be well adjusted.
I totally agree with you, I was also surprised to see this in the news and I was surprised that media made such a big deal out of it. I almost felt bad for the man... out of a sudden all these reports are hunting after you... why? As always, they (media) just trying to get our (TV/news watchers) attention... I don't think they should have done that... just leave the family alone...
The media knows people are inquiring about this super star's father's whereabouts because his mother and sisters were present but his father wasn't. Therefore, they shed some light on the matter.
His Father's name is Fred. He is a retired Maryland state trooper and lives with his new wife in the suburbs of Baltimore. When asked to talk he decline stating that he wanted the attention to be on his son.
I definitely do not think it matters who his father is because his father left his family when he was young so he chose not to be part of their life. It is not important who his father is its just important that he has one loving parent.

I know! That's his buisness. And anyway they are supposed to be talking about how awesome Michael Phelps is :) I think the media is WAY to nosy!
I think a lot of peopel were wondering who his father is and media wanted to exploit that... so yes, they were kinda being nosy.
You're right it's not important- since Michael doesn't need his father to be in his life anymore.
