When kids were younger I always waited until they were asleep or napping, but now I just put up a gate at the end of the hallway and they have access to their toy room and their bedroom while I shower/get ready....nap time is rest time : )
So do you wait until they are asleep or make them entertain themselves?

Not a SAHM but I work evenings so I'm home all day...
Goes like this: Kids wake up, get them situated with some breakfast and cartoons, baby in his bouncer (already fed) and that's when I shower. When I get out, I dry off and put some sweats on then clean up breakfast. By this time the kids are playing and I'm free to dry my hair and style it.
Before we moved (when they were 9 months old), I showered during the day and I let them play in the bathroom. It was a large bathroom and we kept the floor clear. They weren't moving so great, so they stayed put and entertained themselves. After we moved, I started to shower while my husband ormother-in-law entertained them, after they got home. Or I would shower while they were asleep. Now we've moved into the bedroom downstairs, and the bathroom down there is only a half bath, so showering while they sleep isn't an option. I usually put them in the shower with me now, so that I can get us all clean at one time. They are 20 months, and nursed up until 3 months ago. They play while I shower, and then I bathe them. The only downside is that I like a hot shower, so when they shower with me, the water is much cooler than I prefer it.
I use to wait until my son was asleep too! He is now 2 and I do the same thing as you, I put a gate up so he can get into his room/toys. I am expecting a 2nd baby so I dont know when I will shower/bath then lol Maybe the same way just with the baby in the bouncy seat in the bathroom with me? Im not sure yet
i upward push up at 5 a.m. to deliver my husband off to artwork. He leaves around 6 a.m., and that i generally take great thing relating to the hour between then and the time my babies start up waking as much as bathe in peace. Granted, some days i bypass back to mattress instead. I bathe interior the mornings, and that i dress after my showers- however often times my dress for the day may well be a comfortable t-shirt and my famous front room pants (reckoning on whether we are going everywhere, looking forward to every physique, and so on.). I rather have 4 babies between the an prolonged time of 10 months and 13 years of age.
Well im a mum of 4..aged 13,7,5,and 8 month but also meticulously clean lol.
Every morning my eldest goes off to high school no problem, then the middle girls are taken ,I then wait until my baby has her breakfast and morning breastfeed where she Always falls asleep when which I lay her down in her pram,(placed close to our downstairs bathroom),and go have a bath,a little makeup & hair style..all while she snoozes away.
I tend to feel like it's a priviledge somedays though, just to have the time to get clean lol =)
I'm only a SAHM sometimes, but when home alone with my daughter I usually get a bath in the evening, after she's gone to bed. Sometimes I will do it at naptime, or I will put her in the bathtub and I get in the shower stall (I can see her from the shower, which is right next to the tub). I just don't trust my daughter (who is 3) enough to leave her unsupervised while I'm in the shower.
Till she was 1 year i would wait till she would get nap but now she is 14 months old (our house is already baby proof), i will go and take a quick shower before my hubby gets home from work. Btw i keep my bathroom door open so that she can come and see me :)
I shower right after I wake up...it's just me, the husband, and the baby who are awake...I only need like 5 minutes to shower and I'm able to be shower, get dressed, and be ready to start breakfast by the time the kids start waking up at 6-ish.
I put on cartoons..and hop in in the morning. I don't worry about them..they will often wander the house while I am showering...so far everything has been ok. I just started doing this a few months ago...Wyatt doesn't feel the need to put everything in his mouth...or climb on top of the dining room table anymore.
At night after my son is asleep. I like my long, hot bubble baths followed by a shower :D
If I need to actually style my hair (usually I pull it back) then I get up earlier than my son (at least an hour) and take my shower while he is still asleep.
