Ok, so I'm 'old' (compared to a high school student anyway. :) ) I was a bright student but didn't apply myself much in high school except to socialize and the certain subjects that I liked. I somehow graduated having only barely passed pre algebra and algebra.
To this day I remember TRYING to understand and it seemed as if the teacher and the whole class were speaking another language fluently that I had NO IDEA how to even approach learning. I didn't even know what to ask.
Anyway, sometimes I come on here and try to figure out some problems. I am better because my logic is better, but still I haven't a clue.
I have a son who is young, but I know someday he will be in Algebra and I want to be able to help him. I can't stand not knowing how to help.
What are some basic rules of algebra/pre algebra? Is there a good online site I can learn?
Anyone want to throw some basic equations out to me to see if I can learn from them?
I'd really appreciate it, and anyone who can teach me anything, I will give 10 points to as best answer. THANK YOU! Help a MOM~! :)

I just had the same problem. I was recently studying for the GRE and as I was practicing the math parts (all HS level math) I realized I had never really learned algebra correctly while I was in school.
Algebra has a lot of rules. And it takes a lot of practice. I had to pretty much relearn everything and I practiced lots of problems over and over again.
Doing repetetive practice problems is really essential to really learning it. I would recommend starting with a pretty basic math book - you can usually find a lot of used ones at thrift stores or used book stores and start out with stuff that's pretty easy. Just keep doing all the problems, you'll probably find quite a few things that you thought you know, but actually didn't (I know this was the case with me). It'll be a lot easier starting at a low level and working up than just jumping into an algebra problem when you don't know the background stuff.
There are plenty of websites that basically are tutorials for adults to get reacquainted with algebra. purplemath.com is a good place to start.
