I'm going to San Fran for my 21st and I need some suggestions! I'm not interested in any particular scene. I just want to visit a really neat and relaxing bar with some history!
These two bars both claim to be the oldest bars in SF both established in extant locations in 1851
The Old Ship Saloon on Battery at Vallejo pub food is quite good
The Saloon on Grant the best blues bar in SF
Check out any of the following for a historical relaxing bar
Lefty O'Douls on Geary near powell
Tommys Joint on Van Ness at Geary
Asia de Cuba in the Clift hotel a new name for the historic Redwood Room
The Buena Vista at Hyde and Bay - the bar that originated Irish coffee in the US
Tonga Room in the Fairmont Hotel - Tiki bar with a rainstorm every 45 minutes, don't worry they put umbrellas in your drink so they don't get watered down.
Maxfields in the Palace Hotel - Very Mad men
Park Chalet on Great Highway at the western edge of Golden Gate Park.
