1. Test riding a Hyabusa after you get done dyno tuning it beats cleaning the fry bin.
2. Having a Harley rider with a $50,000 bike trust you and only you to work on his bike beats remembering which ingredients go on a Big Mac.
3. Helping a guy who has broken down on the side of the road far from his home get his bike up and running again beats having fresh biscuits ready for old guys who should be home in bed like everybody else.
4. The days of being able to fix a bike with a screwdriver and a couple of wrenches is over. The new Gold Wing (with all options) has 13 on-board computers to make everything work together. Even Harley, who changes things at a slower pace than Darwin's Theory of Evolution, has electronic fuel injection on their cheapest model.
5. The lowest paid guy with a box is getting about 12 bucks an hour here in Florida, with the opportunity to upgrade to a flat rate system, which means you get paid a fixed rate for a manufacturer-specified number of hours based on what type of project you are working on. The top guy at a shop near here is pulling down a six figure income. And I don't see demand for bikes going down as gas prices continue to go up.
Any occupation has it's dues... guys just out of law school get payed hourly to do the research for the guy charging $350 an hour. When (if) your name is on the door then you can get the big bucks... flip burgers... go to cullinary institute... sautee and broil for holiday inn for years... then maybe head chef at 100 grand a year. MMI... wash bikes for two years at a HD dealership... then apprentise for five more... open your own shop and make some money. Nothing comes easy... all occupations require dues payment (experience after education). If you love to wrench... gut up and do what it takes.
I think many people find that kind of work satisfying. I would certainly rather wrench on bikes than flip burgers since that is the comparison you are making. Sure you can go to a good college and earn a 6 figure income, that's what I did, but I have a lot of pressure and stress in my job. I'm sure I'd live a lot longer and be a lot happier if I got to work with bikes instead of aholes all day.
The salary system you have quoted refers to management positions, an ordinary 'Burger in Bun ' salesperson would get considerably less that that, around $10 - $12K at 16 years old.
If your in it for the money your in for the wrong reason
Learn how to work on bikes then in time open your own shop
Or learn all about Mickey Ds and some day make your very own happy meal all by yourself
Which ever one you choose Try to be the best and be happy doing it
If you sell Rossi a mc Ds youre still on shite wages but if you work on his bike you get loads more.
Why wrench? Well I ride it and I broke it, so I fix it. Plus I'm cheap.
Besides all the reasonable reasons, there's one more:
The happiest guy is the one who loves his job.
It's called supply and demand!
so what is the real fn question?stay on welfare if you want
