529 plans are much, much better than they used to be.
There are no annual contribution limits (unlike ESAs), have tax benefits, and are transferrable across state lines.
Put your 529 investments in reasonable mutual funds. My wife and I have savings for nine nieces and nephews and all are in American Funds through Edward Jones.
Just to bank what you can afford adds up in the end, and thats love, and thats what will count in the end.
I could only bank $10 a week at one stage, but now i budget better and save $80 a week for my kids, i got ride of my pleasures for the kids, like drinking and social events for me, and use the money for the kids, and when they are of age they will have a nice little nest egg for them selves.
