Please help! I just adopted a three to five year old Pekingese puppy mill breeder girl. She is still very scared and timid but SO SWEET! I adopted her for my grandmother, who lives by herself so I am trying to get her cleaned up and calmed down, trained, then I will give her to my gram. Her stomach is almost black with dirt and feces stains on her skin, and I have tried to lightly rub it out with a wash cloth, but nothing is working (I have tried with a washcloth three times so far). I was thinking that I can't possibly be the first person that has had this issue with a rescue dog, or any dog that has been outside full time/ laid in dirt full time. Is there anything that I can use to clean her skin so that it is not stained anymore (without hurting her). If you have successfully dealt with this issue, please tell me how!! Thanks!
Update:She just went for an extensive vet exam... had several teeth pulled... eye medication given... the vet told me that it is just dirt stain.

Dawn dish washing liquid, diluted. Stand her in a shallow tub of warm water, (have radio close, or tv where you can see it for the next 30 min.)
saturate the pups belly than cup your hand and catch soap in hand and gently massage chest and stomach area, Then take wash cloth soak it in warm water and thoroughly rinse area,(you could shave this area down with a 10blade and just treat the skin.)
once she is completely dry use corn starch and hand pat her stomach and chest area. This will soak up any oils in the material that's tattooed to her skin.
Now why did you buy your mother a puppy???????
Take it from a little old lady, for company I would prefer a quiet less active breed with less maintenance.
A larger older dog that knows his manners, not one so small i'd trip over him, nor do i want to bend over all the time to pet and give my dog treats.
A nice lab has a head large enough to be a lap warmer or better yet a heating pad, you can turn it off when you want and it's not walking around and dumping my yarn work.
Have a long talk with your mom before you give her a puppy, she's done raising kids and I'll bet she'd appreciate something a little more sedate.
It's wonderful you rescued her. It's great she's in a good home now, although her last one must have been awful.
That sounds like flea dirt. If you drop some of the dirt in water and it turns red, it's flea dirt.
You'll need to wash her really well with a good flea shampoo, then spray her bedding. Comb her daily, and either treat her with something like Front Line, or wash her weekly until it goes away.
Good luck, and congrats again on changing a furry life.
You can buy stain removing products from pet stores, they are just shampoos that you need to leave in for anywhere from 5-15 minutes.
Depending on the color of your Pekes hair (they can be anywhere from very dark to tan) you can buy whitening shampoos to help enhance the 'glow' of the hair or other color enhancing shampoos like red or chocolate (SHAMPOOS, NOT DYES) If they don't have these at pet stores a lot of horse supply shops have them.
You can also buy a product that is for removing tear staining which would work well on other parts of the body.
EDIT - Sorry I just re-read your question and realised you said skin not hair sorry.
Definitely a vet visit to rule out skin infections, puppy mill dogs are often kept on filthy surfaces.
Get some Dog shampoo, and give her a bath. Are you FOR SURE it's dirt? (:
I don't know but maybe you should get in checked out by the vet?
just give the dog a nice warm bath probley just dirt if you see fleas put frontline on the dog if its 8 weeks and older
you should take her to the vet and have her checked out.
some skin infections present with dirty looking brown or black skin.
if the "dirt" wont wash off she might need some antibiotics.
