Our son has autism. He did not get it from a vaccine. He had the symptoms before having the 1 year old vax.

I am not convinced it is the vaccines. Why? Why my son and not someone elses? Why more prevalent in boys than in girls? Further- those diseases kill.

We have a 14 month old who got all vax's on time and is just fine.

I would rather deal with autism than a life threatening disease that could kill or debilitate our child/ren for life. I would not trade our son for anything in the world. He is perfect and a wonderful boy!

I saw signs of autism in my son before he had his vaccinations, so I know they didn't cause it. Also, his dad (my hubby) has Aspergers. Did the vaccinations make him worse, though - I don't know.

I've held off on getting his little sister the MMR for over a year and now am in the process of ordering the vaccinations as separate shots. This is an expensive, inconvenient process: the doctors do not supply them, the health department doesn't either. They also act like you're a complete freak for even asking. There are 2 pharmacies that offer the MMR as separate doses, you just need a prescription from your doc.

Even if you don't really think there's a link between autism and the vaccine, you can still vaccinate separately to be absolutely sure. It's not just whether there's mercury or not, it's also about the child's immuno-sensitivity.

I'm in the same boat as you. My son is 7.5 months .Hearing about the dreaded MMR scares me to death! He has had all vaccines to date. We will most likely get him the vaccine. I doubt that the vaccines are the major cause for autism or everyone would have it. It is VERY scary. I don't think enough research has been done. Giving the shot at a later age would only delay the autism so that makes no sense to me. And I don't see any logic of separating the shots either?

I am in the same boat. My daughter is almost 11 months old, and has had all her vaccines. And I really believe that autism has nothing to do with the MMR shot. That being said, there is still that worry in the back of your head that if you give him the shot and he ends up with autism, would you be the cause.

First thing, always mention your fears with your son's doctor. I have, and they reassure you so much!!

I will be giving my daughter the MMR vaccine, but not at her 12 month appointment. She is getting other shots at that time, and don't want to overload her. My plan in to give her the MMR shot closer to 2, when all of her other shots have been given. It will also be past the time when autism starts to show up, that why, if by chance my daughter is autistic, I will know it wasn't anything I decided to give her.

Either way, my daughter WILL get all her shots. The risk of getting some disease outways any slight chance of autism. And I truly believe that if there were ANY link between shots and autism, it would have already been found, and this vaccine would be off the market.

As a health care professional, you should know how important vaccinations are in the prevention of debilitating (and often fatal) infectious diseases. How lucky we are to be in a society that has access to these important medical tools. If you have ever been to a developing country (I have) you would see that children and adults die from the very diseases we have the ability to protect ourselves against. I have seen it, it's not pretty - and it really made me appreciate the health care we have (however flawed it may be at times).

Vaccinations are a major public health issue - it's not just personal. It can't be - because every parent who chooses NOT to vaccinate their child puts not only their child at risk of serious illness, but also the larger population.

I am a mother of 3 children (ages 4, 2, and 2 months), all of whom have received vaccinations. It is scary to think that MAYBE these vaccinations cause problems. But I have faith that I am doing the best thing for my children, and I recognize that anything can happen to them - it doesn't have to be from a vaccination. But I am doing everything in my power to make them healthy now and in the future. Remember, there have been very few studies that look at this closely - and the evidence is inconclusive - especially in comparison to the research that has shown how much vaccinations have benefited our society.

If you are truly concerned, talk with your doctor and look into separating into 3 shots. The best way to become empowered (for both your health and your family's) is to educate yourself on all sides, and don't just join an anti-vaccine group as one of the above respondents recommended it. All that will do is encourage ignorance, not understanding.

Food for thought: Autism is diagnosed in a child every 20 minutes. If everyone is getting the mmr vaccine, how can measles, mumps and rubella be spread? I have a friend that has a daughter with autism. She swears that it was because of the vaccine. Her daughter is now 20. Back when she was born, autism was diagnosed in 1 out of 250,000. Now it is 1 out of 250. Although I cannot give you web addresses proving one thing or the next, I would say, have the shots separated. That is what I plan to do with my 3 month old. Autism does NOT have a cure or a vaccine!! And it is a lifetime committment, not just a few days or weeks of sickness.

i'm no longer confident the two way. There are compelling arguments on the two aspects AND compelling information for the two aspects. I even have chosen to get my infants vaccinated, although, at a slower %.. Vaccinations could make a toddler ill although. My son became into vaccinated with the Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis... vaccine and he became into ill day after on the instant. i did no longer think of something of it until eventually he broke out with a foul case of eczema. We introduced him to an allergist via fact it became into theory that it must be an allergy and the sorting out confirmed no allergy to foodstuff or atmosphere. a pair of week and a 0.5 later the eczema basically cleared up by utilising itself. I asked the allergist if some thing interior the vaccination could have brought about this and he reported genuinely. My son could have had a sensitivity to a minimum of a few thing interior the shot itself that brought about the outbreak of eczema.

I'm happy for the people here that they were not affected but they would be singing a different tune if they or their kids got autism from the vaccines. Of course if THEY got autism they wouldnt be saying anything would they. I can't believe how gullable and uninformed people are on this subject

Vaccines are dangerous and cause autism. Everything I find indicates it is statistically much more likey the vaccination will damage your child than the diseases they (MAY OR MAY NOT) protect against. You will not believe what is actually in them! Here's a few examples that made me want to puke when I read them. Human diploid tissue culture, specifically WI-38, is used as a vaccine culture media. This cell line was developed in 1962 by the Wistar Institute in Sweden from the lung cells of an aborted female fetus. The parents were reported to be healthy.

That is absolutely NOT TRUE!

There is NO scientfic evidence that proves vaccines don't cause autisms.

There are a few poorly designed studies funded by the vaccine producers that one could hardly call science that assert vaccines don't cause autism. The internals of even these biased studies indicates there are many serious problems caused by vaccinations but in the conclusions(which is often the only part reported on) there is no mention of these problems.

Simply put, the conclusion of the study does not reflect what the study actually found!

Yes you can give the vaccines at a later time. You can get them in 3 separate shots, but a lot of doctors will make you pay for the three separate shots, as it is much more expensive that way.

Also, there is no thimersol (the mercury preservative) in childhood vaccines at all. The only vaccine that still contains thimersol is the flu vaccine. And you can receive mercury free flu shots as well. About 50% of flu shots are now mercury free as well.

There has been no QUALITY study done that proves any link at all. I urge you to read the articles I've attached. They are very informative and written by real doctors and have good information.

Like you I was very worried about the "link" between vaccines and autism. I also did a lot of research and as you probably know, the issue is not the vaccine but the mercury used in it as a preservative.

I asked my Dr. if that vaccine brand he used has mercury in it and he told me no. Most vaccines today no longer have it but I read that flu shots still do.

Ask your pediatrician if the vaccine has mercury in it.
