Hi. I am thinking of including either sentence 1 or 2 in a law personal statement. Please suggest which sentence sounds better'? Thanks
***SENTENCE 1
"The knowledge gained from the LLM degree will be a valuable asset in a career in commercial law."
***SENTENCE 2
"The knowledge gained from the LLM degree will be a valuable asset for a career in commercial law."

The difference is only in choice of preposition (for vs. in), and both are acceptable.
If pressed to choose, I would choose "in commercial law", because "asset" couples with "in" better, because it is an asset 'within' the field. Coupling "asset" with "for" suggest proprietorship, as in "for somebody", which is not your meaning.
sentence 2 sounds better. why do you need to know?
